In response to the severe flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Carina and the Southeast Monsoon, SM activated its Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) program under SM Foundation to deliver urgent relief to communities across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
With Metro Manila placed under a state of calamity on Wednesday, widespread flooding has inundated numerous areas due to overflowing rivers and dam releases. In this critical situation, SM Foundation has swiftly mobilized resources to address the immediate needs of those affected.
SM Foundation has commenced the distribution of over 4,000 Kalinga Packs, which contain essential items such as food, water, and hygiene products. These aid packages are being delivered to severely impacted areas in Rizal province, including Angono, Masinag, San Mateo, and Taytay, as well as to communities in Manila City and Quezon City.
The distribution is supported by employee-volunteers from SM Supermalls and SM Markets, who are actively involved in preparing and delivering the aid packages.
To further extend its assistance, SM Foundation plans to expand the scope of its OPTE operations to additional areas in need. SM Supermalls has also established OPTE booths in affected locations, providing essential services such as free overnight parking, WiFi access, phone charging stations, and help desks to support those impacted by the flooding.
These initiatives are aimed at delivering immediate relief and enhancing community support during this challenging period. The SM Group remains dedicated to aiding disaster-affected areas and ensuring that communities receive the necessary assistance as they navigate through the recovery process.
