Customers, employees, and tenants rallying at SM Megamall’s evacuation area during 2017 National Earthquake Drill
SM breaks a new record as 63 SM malls nationwide, together with SM residences and office buildings, participated in the 2017 National Earthquake Drill of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on June 29.
This year, SM extended overwhelming support with approximately 40,000 participants coming from SM employees, tenants, and customers – against 2016’s estimate of 24,000 participants. Select malls and buildings also simulated scenarios of a real earthquake, including injured and trapped employees.
SM Prime’s Hans T. Sy at a gathering of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies, or ARISE, for the 2017 Global Platform Disaster Risk Reduction on May 23, 2017, held in Cancun, Mexico. Being the only board member of ARISE from the Philippines, Mr. Hans talked about the many projects of ARISE Philippines and of SM Prime on disaster risk resiliency at the conference.
Last May 23 in Cancun, Mexico – SM’s Hans T. Sy represented SM Prime at a gathering of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies, or ARISE. ARISE is a group of UN-backed-up companies that aims to create risk-resilient societies by rallying the private sectors to collaborate with public sectors and other stakeholders toward global disaster preparedness. Mr. Hans is the only board member of ARISE from the Philippines.
